Amy Bento- Hi-Lo Xtreme

Equipment used: none
Level: Advanced
Bottom line: Fast-paced, intricate and fun choreography keeps you moving and your heart rate up throughout this solid floor aerobics routine.
I’m a big fan of Amy Bento, and here’s why: although her cuing is minimal (some say she’s hard to follow), her routines are consistently plain old fun, integrating creative choreography into fast-moving, dancey routines. She is highly energetic and motivating in all her DVDs, and this workout is no exception. She keeps you consistently moving at a nice aerobic level in this one. Yes, the choreography can be somewhat overwhelming, but I did this one the whole way through on my first try with minimal problems (which is more than I can say for some of Amy’s other DVDs).
The major criticism I have of this workout is that I want a tiny bit more from a hi-lo routine. While the intervals were more difficult than the aerobic routines (especially the fourth- that one would have killed me if it hadn’t been for all those squats and lunges I’ve been doing with Jari Love recently), the intensity was a little lacking. Perhaps I’m biased by my love of kickboxing workouts, which tend to be much higher intensity throughout, but in the end this is definitely one of the easier advanced-level workouts I own.
Overall: this is a good hi-lo workout with enough challenging choreography to keep you interested for a while, although advanced exercisers might find that the intensity is lower than other hi-lo workouts. This may be a good choice for a cardio day on which you want more of a choreography challenge and less of an intensity challenge. It will still give you a solid aerobic workout.
